The cost depends mostly on one question: does your site need fixing, or replacing? Fixing the parts that lose calls is usually a small job. A full rebuild is a much bigger one. Here’s how to tell the difference and what each tends to cost.
What freelancers typically charge
Most small website fixes are priced by the hour or as a fixed package. One 2026 cost guide puts freelance web developers in the US and Canada at roughly US$80 to US$180 an hour (source). Agencies usually charge more. Rates vary a lot, so treat these as rough guides, not quotes.
Typical costs by type of job
- A single small fix, like making the phone number tap-to-call or fixing a broken form: often under an hour of work.
- A package of first-screen fixes (tap-to-call, quote button and form, clearer headline, page titles, basic speed and tracking): usually a few hours of work, often priced as a fixed package of a few hundred dollars.
- A new small brochure website (5 to 10 pages): the same guide lists roughly US$500 to US$2,500 for a simple WordPress site from a freelancer, and agencies often charge well above that.
- Ongoing monthly care (updates, small changes, reports): one guide citing GoDaddy puts small-business website maintenance at roughly US$50 to US$500 a month (source).
When fixing is enough
If your site works on phones, you can edit it, and it’s on a common platform like WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or GoDaddy, fixing the first screen is usually the best value. The most common problems.
When a rebuild makes sense
- The site doesn’t work on phones at all.
- Nobody can log in or edit it anymore.
- It’s built on a platform that’s no longer supported.
- You’re changing your business name or services completely.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Is the price fixed, and what exactly is included?
- Will you need my passwords? (A good answer is no: they should ask you to invite them as a user.)
- Will you back up my site before changing anything?
- Who owns the website and domain afterwards? (You should.)
- Will I see before-and-after screenshots of the changes?
- Are you promising rankings or a number of leads? (Be wary of anyone who does.)
